when Morphine disbanded after the death of Mark Sandman in 1999, Dana Colley (saxophone, vocals) formed Twinemen bringing along Billy Conway (drums, vocals, [sometimes] acoustic guitar); completing the trio, Laurie Sargent (guitar, vocals). .. the name Twinemen is an homage to Mark Sandman and his "The Twinemen" comic series, about 3 anthropomorphic balls of twine who play together in a band.

Morphine began in 1989 by Mark Sandman (2-string bass, vocals, organ, tritar [3-string guitar], guitar, piano) and Dana Colley (saxophone, double-sax [a la Rahsaan Roland Kirk]). .. adding Jerome Deupree (percussion) [from Either/Orchestra]. .. Billy Conway (drums) [from Treat Her Right], replaces Deupree in 1993. .. Deupree would later rejoin Morphine, alongside Conway.

formed in 1984, Treat Her Right features Mark Sandman (guitar*, vocals), Billy Conway (drums), Dave Champagne (guitar, vocals) & Jim Fitting (harmonica, vocals). .. (*Sandman's guitar was a 3-string custom model, making it sound more like a bass guitar.)
