Eclectic Finnish musician Jimi Tenor teamed up with Afrobeat drumming legend Tony Allen to complete the fourth installment to Strut Records’ Inspiration Information series. The collaboration was recorded last November at Lovelite Studios in Berlin, and concluded this year with added sessions in Finland and Paris. In just over five days of jamming, the two successfully developed what has been described as a raw culmination of: full range Afrobeat repertoire, homemade instruments, vintage keyboards, dark humor, solid grooves, analog recording, and tight, “firing musicianshipâ€.
Record Club is an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day. The album chosen to be reinterpreted is used as a framework. Nothing is rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track is put up here once a week. The songs are rough renditions, often first takes that document what happened over the course of a day as opposed to a polished rendering. There is no intention to 'add to' the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens. Participants included this time around are Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Brian Lebarton, Bram Inscore, Yo, Giovanni Ribisi, Chris Holmes, and from Iceland, special guest Thorunn Magnusdottir, and Beck.
