Today’s WYCE Artist of the Day: Jason Isbell “IZ-bull†Singer, song writer, former Drive By Trucker. Jason Isbell, was a 6 year member of the Drive by Truckers who has struck out on his own and by all accounts doing quite well for himself. At last week’s Americana Music Awards he took home the awards Artist of the Year and Song of the Year (for “Cover Me Upâ€), as well as the night's top honor: Album of the Year, for his post-sobriety triumph Southeastern. In April 2007, Isbell announced that he was no longer a member of Drive-By Truckers. He released his first solo album, Sirens of the Ditch, in July 2007. Isbell married the singer-songwriter and violinist Amanda Shires, with whom he'd worked on and off for a decade, in February 2013, two days after they finished Southeastern.[8][24] Musician Todd Snider married them. [Isbell has a tattoo on the inside of his left arm, words that are lyrics from Boots of Spanish Leather, the Bob Dylan song: "Just carry yourself back to me unspoiled, from across that lonesome ocean."
