WILCO is today’s WYCE’s Artist of the Day. Wilco, American alternative rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo. Singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt are the only remaining members from the original incarnation. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, the band’s fourth album was completed in 2001, but Reprise Records, a Warner Music Group label, refused to release it. Wilco acquired the rights to the album when they subsequently left the label. In September 2001, Wilco streamed the entire album for free on their website. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was a critical and commercial success, and is their best selling album, with over 500,000 copies sold in the U.S. The album was widely listed among the greatest albums of the 2000s in many popular publications, including 3rd place in Rolling Stone's 100 Best Albums of the 2000s. Now Wilco has released a surprise album "Star Wars" for free download on their website.
WYCE is currently accepting donations of LPs, CDs and Cassettes for our 8th annual Record & CD Sale! This year's event will be held once again at the Eastown Streetfair on Saturday, September 12th. Your donations of music could be tax deductible and all proceeds of the sale will go on to support WYCE! Any donations of LPs, CDs and cassettes are encouraged, regardless of artist or genre, as long as they're in good shape and in their original case. Donations will be accepted through Friday, September 4th. If you're interested in donating music, please email nicole@wyce.org to arrange a drop off time. Thank you!
Support for WYCE comes from Grand Rapids Art Museum presenting their annual outdoor concert series GRAM on the Green.
