Left Home At The Age Of Nine And Hoboed His Way To St. Louis, Learning Guitar & Piano In His Early Teens From A Locally Renowned Bluesman Known As "Dudlow Joe." This Meeting Would Set A Course For A Distinguished Eighty-Year Career Beginning As The Top Session Man In St. Louis, Recording His First Sides In 1929 With Roosevelt Sykes And John Lee "Sonny Boy #1" Williamson. By The Early 1980's, Henry Townsend Had Become An Elder Statesman Of St. Louis Blues. Though Semi-Retired By That Time, He Continued To Play The Occasional Gig, Being Awarded A Posthumous Grammy In 1985 For His Participation On The Album "The Last Of The Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen - Live in Dallas, Which Featured Fellow Nonagenarians Robert Lockwood, David "Honeyboy Edwards," And Pinetop Perkins.
