Charley Patton's Raw Earthy Voice Reflected His Hard Living; His Guitar Sound Was Loud and Rough. He Was A Showman, Spent Time Behind Bars And Spread The Blues Throughout The South And Then North To Chicago And New York City During The Early Part Of The 20th Century. A Pioneer Of The Passionate Delta Blues That Mixed Field Hollers With Percussive Guitar Riffs, Patton's Songs Went Beyond The Usual Laments Of Poverty And Lost Love. Within Five Years Charley Patton Recorded Sixty Sides; None Of the Metal Masters Exist, Sold Off To Line Chicken Coops. His Influence Resonates To This Day. Charley Patton Passed On In 1934
