The Soul Album is the fourth studio album by American soul singer-songwriter Otis Redding, released in 1966. shows him moving from strength to strength in a string of high-energy, sweaty soul performances, interspersing his own songs with work by Sam Cooke ("Chain Gang"), Roy Head ("Treat Her Right"), Eddie Floyd ("Everybody Makes a Mistake"), and Smokey Robinson ("It's Growing") and recasting them in his own style, so that they're not "covers" so much as reinterpretations.

There's been a lot of mystery surrounding this project but is has recently been revealed that Dominique Dumont is a Latvian duo, Arturs Liepins and Anete Stuce, who have also been collaborating with “an enigmatic French artist whose existence cannot be confirmed nor denied” (sorry, but it sounds like there’s still some mystery in the air), the duo have been touring live and, most importantly, they kept on broadening their musical palette experimenting in a pop field. Eight of these experiments are now tied together on the album Miniatures de Auto Rhythm.

When this album was released in 2008, it won the Roots World Music Critics Award both for Best Compilation and for Best Package. NPR's All Things Considered, went further, naming it the best album of the year in any musical genre, never mind that the contents had been recorded in Kinshasa, Congo, three, four and five decades earlier. The accolades kept coming. Both Mojo and Blender awarded the album 5 stars, Inside Music graded it A+ and Pitchfork gave it an 8.8. The New York Times reported that 'Thorough liner notes help Western listeners understand the implications of Franco's lyrics, while the grooves communicate immediately.' The Washington Post clarified that point: 'Two and half hours of irrepressible grooves.'
