"Angelitos Negros" is from Flack's debut album, "First Take," released in 1969. The song is based on a poem, "PÃntame angelitos negros," penned by Venezuelan writer Andrés Eloy Blanco. The poem is largely considered to be a hymn against racial discrimination and a call to recognize a multiracial society.
