Blues Spotlight: A Self-Taught Pianist, Delta Born Walter Davis Set Out For St. Louis In The Mid-1920's, A Vibrant Blues Scene That Had Peetie Wheatstraw And Roosevelt Sykes Playing Most Nights. Heavily Influenced By Leroy Carr, Davis Cut His First Record In 1930, Teaming Up With Guitarist Henry Townsend As They Exploited The Fashion For Piano/Guitar Duets. Sometimes Billed As 'Hooker Joe', Davis Output Totalled One-Hundred And Fifty Pieces Recorded In A Twenty-Two Year Period Ending In 1952. A Stroke Put An End To His Career, And He Turned To Religion, Becoming A Preacher For The Rest Of His Days. Walter Davis Passed On In 1963.
