Celebrating a legacy spanning nearly 41 years, the label asked current artists to dive into their rich discography and chose a track from 4AD’s past to reimagine for today’s listeners.

New album due 5/14 via Loma Vista - St. Vincent began writing some Daddy’s Home songs in winter 2019, which is around the time that her father was released from prison after being incarcerated for nine years. In a new interview with Laura Snapes for The Guardian, it’s revealed that the album’s title track was inspired by St. Vincent taking her father home from prison.
“‘It Is What It Is’ is a song about hindsight,†Peter Silberman said in a statement. “It considers what might have changed had you handled things differently back then, and the reluctant acceptance that it’s too late for all that now. It’s the inevitability of changing seasons, transitions that feel like loss in the moment, but come to represent growth over time.â€
