Willie "Poor Boy" Lofton

Dark Road Blues [1936]
Jackson Blues 1928-1938 1991 via Shanachie
a note about this track

Blues Spotlight - A Relatively Unknown, Willie Lofton Was A Delta Blues Singer/Guitarist, Close In Style To Tommy Johnson; Travelled North To Chicago In The Mid 1930s, Nailing Down Two Recording Sessions That Produced Eight Sides, Cutting Six For Decca As "Poor Boy" Lofton, And Two With A Backing Band Including Pianist Black Bob Hudson. This Would Be The Extent Of Lofton's Recording Career, Returning To Jackson In 1942 Without Achieving Much Commercial Success; However, Lofton's Rewritten Lyrics On "Dark Road Blues" Is A Part Of The DNA Of The Blues Tradition. Willie Lofton Passed On In 1962.
