Blues Spotlight; Buddy Lamp - Was Born In Mississippi And Grew Up In Detroit. His First Recordings Were Gospel With The Lampkin Singers. Lloyd Price Brought Him To New York To Record For Gone Records, And These Sessions Would Moved Him Into More Obvious Soul Territory, And Form The Basis Of His Reputation As A Motor City Vocalist. Lamp Recorded For Several Small Labels in Detroit And These Sessions Proved Very Successful; His R&B Releases Were Impressive Even Attracting The Memphis Horns On A Few Tracks. Relocating To Houston In 1969 Lamp Cut A Few Sides For The Duke Label But Failed To Spark Any Interest, The Magic Was Gone. Willie Lee "James Buddy" Lampkin Passed On 2007.
