MikeontheMic

"Mike brings his personality into the music he plays, he will chat with you between sets and then you hear the story he is telling in the tunes he picks out. He takes you on a ride and it is not easy to park the car and get out. I learn something every time I listen to his show." Quinn Mathews, Former WYCE Station Manager "MikeontheMic is an advocate of everything WYCE, because he loves music with a passion. I expect to hear bubbling bass lines, soulful guitar, rocking drums, and powerful voices. In short though....what Mike brings to the listeners of WYCE is TRANSCENDENCE." AJ Paschka, Former WYCE Station Manager "When Mike's on the Mic, the music will be just a bit off center. He finds a way to lead you just beyond your range in an accessible manner. Obviously dedicated to the format and Community Radio." Lee, WYCE Volunteer Programmer "The World would be a better place if everyone was dancing. Also Playing Radio is great fun!" MikeontheMic, WYCE Volunteer Programmer

Support today on WYCE is brought to you by Pyramid Scheme, presenting flipturn on Thursday, February 16th!

In the time since 2015, indie rock group flipturn has mushroomed to reaches far beyond the walls of the Fernandina Beach garage they first practiced in. The band is walking proof that the DIY approach is still alive and well in the modern music world. Growing up and maturing as musicians in a way that can only be done by spending years on the road together, flipturn is primed to usher in the era of their debut full-length album, Shadowglow.

Miko Marks & The Resurrectors

River
Feel Like Going Home 2022 via Redtone Records
a note about this track

Miko was born in Flint, Michigan. Attended Grambling State University from 1990 to 1994. The release of Feel Like Going Home in 2022, is an amalgamation of where Miko has been and where she is going. What she has learned and what she wants to teach. It’s an innermost look at the ebb and flow of her past, present and future. River weaves this resurgence into the new record, Miko said The river can mean a lot of things. Its always been such a strong and universal theme in song and poetry. Its healing its baptism its crossing over its cleansing its rebirth. Im calling out to the river to take me wherever it goes. Letting go and trusting it to take me where I need to be. Jumping in to escape whatever might be coming for me.

Summer of Soul (click for more info)

Join WYCE as we present "Summer of Soul" at the Wealthy Theatre on Tuesday, February 7th.

During the turbulent summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park. The footage was largely forgotten-until now. In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary - part electrifying music film, part historical record - created around an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion.

Join us as we celebrate this award-winning film "Summer of Soul" on the big screen at Wealthy Theatre on Tuesday, February 7th at 8:00. Arrive early for a special pre-show live set from DJ Dante Cope to kick off the evening at 6:30pm. Representatives from GRMIFI & Grand Stand Pictures will also be present.

More information and tickets are available at WEALTHY THEATRE DOT ORG.
