Remarkable jazz tenor saxophonist with a 4 decade long career. Active in the Detroit jazz scene in the mid 1950’s. He went on to play all kinds of jazz with R &b, Latin and avant-garde influences. He played with Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Freddie Hubbard. He even had a brief stint with Blood, Sweat and Tears in 1971. Big “ comeback album was Lush Life: the music of Billy Strayhorn in 1992. He died in San Francisco in 2001.
