Today, WYCE is taking the time to recognize Juneteenth...the annual commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States of America.
We honor and recognize the significance of the Juneteenth Holiday by highlighting some of the many local black owned businesses, like We Are Lit bookstore, The Last Mile Cafe, House of Style, Grammotones, and many other Grand Rapids Area Black Businesses.
In honor of Juneteenth, we share this quote from American abolitionist, statesman, social reformer, and writer, Frederick Douglass, who said, "I prayed for freedom for twenty years, but received no answer until I prayed with my legs."
