Blues Plate Special: Roosevelt Sykes - One Of The Most Important Of The Several Piano Blues Innovators Who Came Out Of St. Louis During The Inter-War Years, Had A Rowdy Barrelhouse Style And Introduced A Complex, Jazz Influenced Phrasing That Sounded More Urbane And Modern. During His Youth, SykesWould Hobo Back And Forth Between St. Louis And New Orleans And Learned All He Could About Barrelhouse Playing - He Signed With Decca Records In 1935, Relocated To Chicago and Soon Became An In-Demand Session Player Backing Memphis Minnie And Washboard Sam - The Honeydrippers Came Formed In 1944, Recorded And Performed For A Decade Together - Roosevelt Sykes Recorded What Is Now Considered A Classic Release In 1973, Recorded At The Ann Arbor Blues Festival; Continued To Perform Up To The Very End, July 1983
