Local Resonance

Local Resonance showcases the people in our community through the music in their lives. The show focuses on three main aspects of music in West Michigan: locally created, original music, live music events taking place in our area, and the music that people in Grand Rapids are listening to.

If you'd like to find out more about Ensemble Al-Asdeka and tonight's Solstice party, look at their website: A-L-A-S-D-E-K-A-DOT-COM. Now, let's listen to a couple of original local holiday songs recorded live at WYCE's A Winter's Tune. The first song we'll hear is from Sara Luneack, who wrote the song "Little Match Girl", based upon a story by Hans Christian Andersen. Leading into the song, she paraphrased the sad, but hopeful story of the Little Match Girl, which she then retells in the song.

Introduction

Local Resonance show 3
December 21
a note about this track

Welcome to Local Resonance, I'm Kevin Murphy. Local Resonance is WYCE's new program dedicated to West Michigan's music scene. Local Resonance doesn't just play music from local artists - instead, we like to say that we tell the stories of people in our community through the music in their lives. That means that we'll take a look at music that's produced and created locally, but we'll also feature live music events from local, national and international acts, and we'll take a look at music of all kinds that the people of West Michigan are listening to. This week, it's the Local Resonance Holiday Show. We'll listen to local holiday music -- from covers of familiar Christmas carols to original seasonal songs, and we'll take a look at the back-story of how some of those songs came to be. Plus, we'll hear from everyday West Michigan folks about their favorite -- and least favorite -- holiday songs. And, for a change of pace, the Middle-Eastern group Ensemble Al-Asdeka will join us to talk about their new album and their Winter Solstice party - tonight. To start off, let's listen to two tracks from the CD "A Very West Michigan Christmas". This is Chance Jones' take on "The Little Drummer Boy", followed by Dust A.C. and Pet The Warrior's original number, Fa-la-la-la-la Merry Christmas". Music you'll on hear on 88.1 WYCE. This is Local Resonance. (02:00)
