a note about this track

Welcome to Local Resonance, I'm Kevin Murphy. Local Resonance is WYCE's new program dedicated to West Michigan's music scene. Local Resonance doesn't just play music from local artists - instead, we like to say that we tell the stories of people in our community through the music in their lives. That means that we'll take a look at music that's produced and created locally, but we'll also feature live music events from local, national and international acts, and we'll take a look at music of all kinds that the people of West Michigan are listening to. On this week's show, we'll talk to a group of local musicians who are using their music to support public education in Grand Rapids. Singer-songwriter Phil Biggs and local rock band Mid-Life Crisis will play in-studio and talk about their fundraising project: Standing Together. Later, we'll hear from Ryan Dittmer of the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, who'll tell us about a new documentary about Clash frontman Joe Strummer -- and we'll give away some tickets to the local premiere. All that plus man-on-the-street fun with My Three Songs and a look at local live music in our concert calendar at the end of the show. But, now, let's start off with some local music. Here are three local female singer-songwriters who have been nominated for WYCE Jammie awards this year. First, we'll hear from Daisy May, who was a nominee in several categories, including best local Folk album. Likewise, a multi-category nominee, Karisa Wilson, will play the title track from her album, Little Girl. Then we'll hear vocal work by Rachael Davis, who along with Steppin In It, were nominated for the best local jazz album of the year. Here's Daisy May with the song "Rise Up Singing" from her album, Mother Moon.
