Local Resonance

Local Resonance showcases the people in our community through the music in their lives. The show focuses on three main aspects of music in West Michigan: locally created, original music, live music events taking place in our area, and the music that people in Grand Rapids are listening to.

That'll do it for our in-studio guests, Four Finger Five. Of course, if you liked what you heard, you can see them live at the Jammies next Tuesday at Wealthy Theatre. We have time for a little more music, so let's listen to tunes from Truckstop Cobras, The Icicles and Root Doctor -- three more bands playing at the free Jammies show.

...time now to listen to some more music from artists playing at next Tuesday's Jammies show at Wealthy Theatre. In this set, we'll smooth things out a bit with some local jazz from the band Evidence, and tunes from two local Celtic acts, Tinker's Tea and Fonn Mor.

That was the Lynn Thompson band, with the song "Wastin' Time" from the album "Say So." Prior to that we heard the title track to the Blue Moon Blues Band's release "Cool, Cool River". Both of those bands are playing at Tuesday's Jammies awards show and concert at Wealthy Theatre. If you visit WYCE.org and click on the concerts link, you can see a full line-up of the performers -- more of whom we'll be listening to later in the show. But, now, Four Finger Five, a band that has been nominated for a few Jammies, and will also be performing at that show, sat down with us at Mackinaw Harvest studios to talk about their national album debut and their first big tour.

a note about this track

Welcome to Local Resonance, I'm Kevin Murphy. Local Resonance is WYCE's new program dedicated to West Michigan's music scene. Local Resonance doesn't just play music from local artists - instead, we like to say that we tell the stories of people in our community through the music in their lives. That means that we'll take a look at music that's produced and created locally, but we'll also feature live music events from local, national and international acts, and we'll take a look at music of all kinds that the people of West Michigan are listening to. On this week's show, it's the Jammies preview show. WYCE's 9th Annual celebration of local music takes place on Tuesday, February 12th, and today's show is nothing but a bunch of music from artists playing at that FREE show at Wealthy Theatre. We'll talk to Muskegon funk-rock band Four Finger Five, nominated for a couple of local Jammie awards, and we'll hear music from several more bands who will be playing at the Jammies. To start, we'll listen to music from the Blue Moon Blues Band and the Lynn Thompson Band, then we'll get to our interview with Four Finger Five. You're listening to Local Resonance; here's the title track from the Blue Moon Blues Band's album "Cool, Cool River".
