Local Resonance showcases the people in our community through the music in their lives. The show focuses on three main aspects of music in West Michigan: locally created, original music, live music events taking place in our area, and the music that people in Grand Rapids are listening to.

Welcome to Local Resonance, I'm Kevin Murphy. Local Resonance is WYCE's new program dedicated to West Michigan's music scene. Local Resonance doesn't just play music from local artists - instead, we like to say that we tell the stories of people in our community through the music in their lives. That means that we'll take a look at music that's produced and created locally, but we'll also feature live music events from local, national and international acts, and we'll take a look at music of all kinds that the people of West Michigan are listening to. On this week's show, new local music -- both from local releases, and from our in-studio guests, Simien the Whale. They'll be playing tonight at "Beats for Baxter", a showcase of new, young talent here in Grand Rapids, with proceeds benefiting the Baxter Community Center. Before we get there, we'll start off with a sampling of some new music. We'll start off with music from Mystic Dub, the opening band from last Saturday's "Reggae Legends Bob Marley Birthday Bash" at Wealthy Theatre - described by one local music critic as "the highlight of the winter". We'll also hear new music from Ralston Bowles and a few others. To start, here's Mystic Dub.
