Local Resonance

Local Resonance showcases the people in our community through the music in their lives. The show focuses on three main aspects of music in West Michigan: locally created, original music, live music events taking place in our area, and the music that people in Grand Rapids are listening to.

a note about this track

Welcome to Local Resonance, I'm Kevin Murphy. Local Resonance is WYCE's new program dedicated to West Michigan's music scene. Local Resonance doesn't just play music from local artists - instead, we like to say that we tell the stories of people in our community through the music in their lives. That means that we'll take a look at music that's produced and created locally, but we'll also feature live music events from local, national and international acts, and we'll take a look at music of all kinds that the people of West Michigan are listening to. On this week's show, it's more or less a return to normal... After a couple weeks of fundraising, and a couple weeks of the wicked microbes of winter conspiring against me, I'm back to present a good old-fashioned sampling of local music. This week, we'll hear new music from a number of local artists, listen in to another man-on-the-street music survey with My Three Songs, and hear from our in-studio guest, Corey Ruffin -- a musician and performance artist with a penchant for old jazz and jokes about cannibalism. Yeah, you heard me... Let's start off the show with some new local tunes. To begin, we'll hear local band Igby Iris doing the Wilco-sounding track "Headlines", followed by new music from Steppin' In It and some re-issued music from Joel Mabus. This is Local Resonance on WYCE.
