About the Host

New Standards explores the freshest music available and is curated weekly by LaRae, a WYCE Programmer since 2005. LaRae tends to lean into indie rock, neo-soul, latin-pop, modern-creative jazz and the offbeat.

LaRae is the founder of dizzybird records, a boutique label specializing in psych/garage/moody rock. She also works as the Director of Programming & Production at State Theatre, a historic gem in downtown Kalamazoo. As a curious listener, concert promoter, and live music fanatic, she was ecstatic to take the reins at New Standards after 18 years as a weekday WYCE programmer. 

She's a whip at music trivia, crosswords, and puzzles in general. As an abolitionist, she has a passion for social justice and human rights and knows that the only way to survive in this world is to "take care of yourselves and each other," her long-standing show closing statement.
