Lifelong jazz pianist Aaron Goldberg has released 5 albums as leader since 1999, and has been featured as co-leader or sideman in over 40 other releases. The Now has an impulsive, exciting grip to it while retaining a primarily smooth tone throughout. The focus of the tracks is the free-form, sporadic nature of jazz itself, filled with spontaneity and soul. Backed by a jumpy, witty, and sometimes frantic rhythm section of kit and upright bass, Goldberg dashes and meanders through a compilation of originals and arrangements. “Jazz music… exists in the dynamic plane of the present” (Goldberg, liner notes).
