Seattleite band Pickwick seems to have a lot going for them. With an American tour just starting and their first full album, Can't Talk Medicine, soon out in March, the band looks ready to make a splash in the music scene. But behind their DIY swagger, the band's album holds its own, giving indie fans a fusion of lo-fi garage rock and R&B. Most of the songs on the album are mid-tempo jams with guitars gentling swirling above deep bass, giving enough inertia to keep the album drifting forward. The occasional interludes like "Myths" add a texture echoing the days of analog and tape decks, while foregrounding song themes like maturity. With their dampened vocals and an ear for groove, they'd sound somewhat like MUTEMATH, with an excellent fusion with R&B. For those seeking a slow burn album to savor, this is definitely recommended. - Jacqueline Ristola
