NEIL YOUNG

Sugar Mountain Live At Canterbury House 1968

1969-12-31

NEIL YOUNG SUGAR MOUNTAIN LIVE AT CANTERBURY HOUSE This is live Neil Young recorded in 1968 at the Canterbury House located on the campus of the University of Michigan. This recording takes place just prior to Neil’s first solo release & after his departure from the super group Buffalo Springfield. This is pure Neil stripped down to his acoustic guitar, storytelling and vocals. Neil covers three Buffalo Springfield classics including Mr. Soul, On the Way Home and Broken Arrow. Other early Neil classics such as the title track Sugar Mountain & The Loner are well done and sound great 41 years after their original release. My only complaints on this disc is if you listen closely you will hear an unusual amount of tape hiss and some of Neil’s raps sound a little dated especially his bookstore rap that covers his taking drugs and getting fired from his first job. This CD will be an essential for fans of Neil and a nice listen for listeners who enjoy a great storyteller at an early point of his career. Reviewed By: Gregg Saur
