THE LUYAS

Animator

2012-10-29

Montreal band, The Luyas makes atmospheric rock. For its third release, Animator, such instruments as french horn, 12-string electric zither, violin, drums, and organ are used. Jessie Stein's moody vocals go a long way in helping to create an otherworldly feel. Occasional electronics and arresting noises modify the sound. This often somewhat quiet music (especially the second half of the disc) is innovative, yet accessible. I found Animator to be a pleasant discovery. Rebecca Ruth
