This 13 cut disc evokes the atmosphere of a late night jazz club heavy with cigar smoke, perfume and the night cap to put the crowning touch on the evening. Romance is in the air, the night is leading to an inevitable conclusion but the music is just too damn good to leave. The male equivalent of a torch singer, British vocalist Ian Shaw gives subtle and sympathetic readings to a number of tunes that may not immediately strike you as fodder for a jazz disc: Gilbert O'Sullivan's 70's pop hit "Alone Again Naturally", David Bowie's "An Occasional Dream", Elton John/Bernie Taupin's "We All Fall in Love Sometimes", Dylan's "Gotta Serve Somebody", and Radiohead's "The Tourist". More classic jazz and blues fare includes Blobby Blue Bland, Jimmy Dorsey and Randy Newman tracks.
Laid back, yet steamy in equal measure, this is a perfect disc for when you want to slow things down a bit and just relax to the groove.
