Puerto Plata

Mujer de Cabaret

2008-04-07

If you struggle to find worldbeat music to play, this is a great CD to grab. It's got an international flavor, but is quite accessible to the average listener. His music is categorized as 'son', but this album also has tinges of merengue, bolero, and more. This album claims to "take you back to the golden age of Dominican guitar music." Jose Cobles is the man behind the name Puero Plata for this, his first, album. Puerto Plata also happens to be the name of the resort town that Cobles grew up in. On this CD, you can also hear two other famous Dominican Republic musicians, Edilio Paredes and Frank Mendez. Puerto Plata has been playing music for a long time, has seen a lot of personal and political hard times, and finally has released his first CD. The liner notes are very informative, if you'd like to learn more. ~Renae
