SILVER JEWS

Tanglewood Numbers

2005-12-10

David Berman has been delighting fans for years as a storyteller and rock star. Along with Steve Malkmus from Pavement, these college buddies have been recording creative and emotionally gripping songs since they worked together as museum security guards, recording music into people’s answering machines after work. The band just grew from there. “Silver Jews” albums are often somewhat lo-fi--not so with this album. A couple of well-polished rock anthem-type tracks exist (for sure track 1), and also a number of twangy Southern-inspired rock songs with mandolin, violin and surprises. -Pete
