Aterciopelados is one of the first Latin rock bands in Columbia, as well as is among the Latin American country’s top groups. Los Aterciopelados, whose name translates as "the Velvety Ones,” were recipients of Grammy award nominations in 1997 and 98. The band has created its own sound by combining a rock-solid approach with a variety of Latin American musical traditions, which include mariachi, bolero, and much more. -Ben Buteyn
