THE DECEMBERISTS

The Crane Wife

2006-10-30

The quintet of the Decemberists led by Colin Meloy were former occupants of the small community theatre and record labels, but recently signing with Capitol Records with “The Crane Wife,” they hope to project to a wider audience. “The Crane Wife,” presents an impressive variety of styles usually consisting of folk-rock but now adding a touch of blues. This album tells the imaginative stories of lead singer Meloy, primarily those of war and love. Meloy was influenced by a Japanese folk tale that has been handed down from generation to generation, with promises of rock n roll, rape, murder, and violence as well. Ben Buteyn
