Youssou N'Dour

Egypt

2004-06-16

After establishing himself as one of Africa’s premier vocalists, Youssou N’Dour has spent the better part of 15 years dipping his toe in the waters of American pop music, recording with Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon and Neneh Cherry and scoring a Grammy nomination in 1991.

Additionally, he’s made his mark as a humanitarian, touring with Amnesty International concerts and serving as Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations and to UNICEF.

With Egypt, Youssou N’Dour has turned his attention to his home country of Senegal, the heartland of Sufi culture. On this offering, the rhythms and melodies of Senegal drive arrangements featuring traditional Egyptian and Arabian orchestral musicians. Their contributions provide the backdrop for N’Dour’s lyrical celebration of Senegal’s mystical Muslim culture.
