Got a Girl is Mary Elizabeth Winstead (The Spectacular Now) and Dan "The Automator" Nakamura. They met during the filming of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. (She starred in it and Nakamura did some of the music.) That chance meeting led to the recording of some tracks, which led to this album. Like the album's title, I Love You But I Must Drive Off This Cliff Now, the music is dramatic. Winstead's vocals, sometimes spoken, are seductive. The melodies are catchy. The lyrics are fun. Dan Nakamura gives the entire thing a retro sound with orchestral elements lending themselves to serious cinematic overtones. His production is everything you would expect of him. The music, the liner notes and the cover, were all obviously influenced by 60's French cinema to make for a sexy package. Got A Girl nails it with this debut. Rebecca Ruth
