B-SIDE PLAYERS

Fire in the Youth

2007-08-13

The sophomore release by septet B-Side Players blends Latin, funk, soul and reggae, with emphasis on the Latin. Taquerito, the album's ninth track is uptempo and samba-esque, while Nuestras Demandas is a smooth, reggae number with lyrics to inspire a more global perspective. Warrior Culture offers a laid back groove, while openly addressing the issue human rights. The album brings thought provoking lyrics and horn blasts together while maintaining a consistency that is anything but schizophrenic. Fire in the Youth is a complex blend of words and sounds, yet an amazingly easy listen. – Sarah Minnick
