Tales of a Grasswidow

  Sisters Sierra and Bianca Casady teamed up with Icelandic composer/producer, Valgeir Sigurosson, for their fifth album as CocoRosie. Tales of a Grasswidow takes a dark musical path, exploring themes of incest, child molestation, mental illness, and environmental issues. The music is a mixture of acoustic piano, occasional guitar, keys, beatboxing, and programming, all overlaid with child-like vocals....sometimes bringing Bjork to mind.  Tales of a Grasswidow caught me off-guard and held my interest with its provocative instrumentation, production, and content. This reviewer has gone from CocoRosie virgin to CocoRosie fan.     Rebecca Ruth
