Chris Brubeck has created an impressive piece of work with his "Vignettes for Nonet" composition on this album. All three movements were written for woodwind quintet and jazz quartet. They successfully combine elements of classical and jazz music with the help of musical guests Imani Winds on woodwinds. Chris plays bass and trombone on this album and is joined by his brother, Dan, on drums and Chuck Lamb on piano. Mike DeMicco plays guitar and also contributed the third track, "Eclipse" with guitar parts that sound inspired by jazz guitarist, Grant Green. In case you were wondering, yes, Chris and Dan are jazz legend Dave Brubeck's sons. The last track on this album is their take on their dad's "Blue Rondo a la Turk". The addition of woodwinds and trombone gives this song a New Orleans feel. Reviewed by Rebecca RuthRachelle Garniez & the Fortunate Few
