Jeremiah Lockwood’s solo debut, American Primitive, rides the fence between a blues and bluegrass album. The title of his solo album is very accurate in that the music spans various genres that would describe “American music”. Track 4, “No More Of This Life” is a great song that is comparable to the White Stripes bluesy material. Track 5, entitled “The Moon Is Rising” is evidence that Lockwood was highly influenced by Robert Johnson, complete with faux train whistle in the background; definitely the standout track on this album. Track 7, “Love In The Dungeon” is a sweet reward that shows Lockwood mastering the blues sound. Overall, “American Primitive” is a strong debut album from Lockwood that will have you listening over and over. - Lane ZoerhofAVETT BROTHERS
