dZihan & Kamien

Live in Vienna

2004-10-23

One-time music students Vlado dZihan & Mario Kamien take to the stage with a 22-member orchestra featuring instruments, a turntable and a sampler at renowned Austrian jazz club Porgy & Bess. The Live in Vienna jam session originally started out as a release party for their album Gran Riserva(2002), and the set comprises all previously-released material.

dZihan & Kamien's music has always been about blending their love for Turkish and Arabic music with jazz and ambient. Expect down-tempo jazz funk, even lounge grooves, with some trip-hop. It's all pleasant enough, but nothing really jumps out here as especially memorable. The bonus disc of remixes is far lovelier and includes new takes by Richard Dorfmeister and Howie B.
