Lazy Genius

Strange Plains, Dark Grooves.

2009-10-23

This album is a fun ride through a Strange, Groovy place. The band almost sounds like all of the best alternative bands kinda smashed together, but tastefully (if you can imagine that). The twangy guitars and heavy reverb in the melody give the music a strange vibe, but an upbeat, almost happy feel. The vocals are upbeat, and fit well with the music while contrasting it at the same time. The lyrics are easy to understand, but take thought to comprehend. All together, the music creates an atmosphere that envelopes you like a forest on a dark night. Overall, I'd say this album is one of the best local albums I've heard in a long time. It makes me want to hit the downtown Grand Rapids scene again, just to see if I might find more music like these guys. Recommends: (1, 2, 3, 4, 8) ~ Chris Thomas
