The Avett Brothers’ new album Emotionalism offers an alternative rock sounds with a twangy twist. While some songs feel like true country blues – mainly the slower, somber ones like “All My Mistakes” – others, especially the more upbeat, might fall under rock. The songs touch on blues themes of loss and regret, especially in love. But almost all also reflect an excellent sense of humor about these topics, with light lyrics and animated rhymes. - By Emily RattrayWillie Nelson, Merle Haggard, & ray Price
