Washington, D.C. band Chaise Lounge commits its music to disc with Insomnia. Insomnia is vocals-driven lounge, backed by a jazz quintet. Band leader/pianist/composer Charlie Barnett penned the originals here, with lyrics (sung by Marilyn Older) that are often clever and engaging. One of the clever ones is the hidden track (#13, possibly called “Ruin Your Day”), a fun kiss-off song to a clueless lover. Interesting choices in covers include Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Bali Ha’i” and Bobbie Gentry’s “Ode to Billie Jo”. Rebecca Ruth
