You may think that Fujiya & Miyagi is a Japanese electronic duo. Well, you’re partially right. This is electronic rock, but the band is actually a quartet from Brighton, UK. The name is supposedly either derived from a character in the “Karate Kid” film, or a record player brand name. In either case, Ventriloquizzing is quiet, monotone vocals backed by synth and guitar and put to danceable beats. The simplistically humorous lyrics are sung in a sinister whisper. Take the 6th track, “Pills”, for example. I don’t know whether to laugh or to be creeped out. It’s not so difficult with 8th track, “Minestrone”. Although the song is about a devil-worshiping ritual, it’s pretty funny stuff. Rebecca RuthROCKIN' JASON D. WILLIAMS
