KELLY WILLIS

Translated from Love

2007-07-10

Translated is Willis’ fourth album to enter WYCE and her seventh overall, a great solid effort from start to finish, a good combination of roots rock and Americana. Since it is produced by Chuck Prophet you know the sound quality is covered, and he and Jules Shear also share many of the songwriting credits with Willis. In other notes, “The Gourds” appear in the instrumentation, and Willis was recently featured in a multi-million dollar ad campaign for Claritin. Considering the guts of the album, one could predict this to be a critical favorite, while at the same time if the combination of timing and the “act as if” mentality are correct, she might be ripe for commercial success. – Pete
