SNOW PATROL

Fallen Empires

2012-03-25

Snow Patrol are Gary Lightbody, Nathan Connolly, Jonny Quinn, Paul Wilson and Tom Simpson. Fallen Empires is their sixth album and one song rises above all the others: “Called Out in the Dark” which was released as a single early on. It is a heavily synthesized electronic track. “The Weight of Love” has a great beat/dance tune. Title track “Fallen Empires” is somewhat monotone but has a relentless urgency to it. Sentiment abounds about being a dad in “Lifening,” a song sung from a contented heart. It would make a great closure to a sappy movie ending while the credits roll by! “In the End” is in a similar style to Coldplay. “New York” is an impressive track with plenty of strings, brass and woodwind instrumentation. Recommended tracks in order of preference: 2-9-10. FCC Alert: Track 4 / Pam VandeKerkhoff
