Kurt Rosenwinkel

Heartcore

2003-10-15

Rosenwinkel is a tweaker and a perfectionist, and after having spent many hours in the studio he’s come up with a trippy, artistic, instrumental jazz album crafted to create “the feeling of the room lifting off the ground.” Q-Tip of “A Tribe Called Quest” has co-producer credits, a favor to be returned on his forthcoming release. This is art jazz with maybe some tendencies toward worldbeat and trippy ethereal “Radiohead.” Kind of like John Scofield, in the woods with no one around, through a funnel. In addition to Q-Tip, he’s collaborated with both Brian Blade and Brad Mehldau. By Pete Drover
