French synth-rock – and it’s never been better. Or some might argue the band, which has been together for about a decade, has sounded better on past releases, “Untitled” or “Alphabetical,” but no matter, the votes are in and Phoenix is a winner once again. The songs are in English because the Paris four-some grew up listening to American and British rock music and the subtle Hall & Oates-esque, Steely Dan sound comes through. The band says it’s their most autobiographical album to date. There are lots of top cuts to choose from, but I’d recommend “Long Distance Call,” “Consolation Prizes,” “Before the Fall” and “Second to None.” -steLLaBRIE STONER
