CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG

5:55

2007-05-14

Appealing to both French and American audiences is no easy task. But Charlotte Gainsbourg, Serge Gainsbourg's daughter, just might pull it off with her second album, 5:55 — the first album was Charlotte Forever, which was released when she was 13. Now Gainsbourg is 35, and she’s achieved the majority of her success as an actress … both in French films like Happily Ever After, and English language films like 21 Grams. She more recently starred in director Michael Gondry's The Science of Sleep. She’s re-entered the music scene, and her sexy voice and obsessive lyrics, particularly on track 6, "Beauty Mark," and track 10, "Everything I Cannot See," would surely make Serge proud. -Sara Cosgrove
