ERNIE HAWKINS

Whinin' Boy

2010-12-03

Pittsburgh acoustic bluesman Ernie Hawkins was captured by the playing style of the famed Rev. Gary Davis, so much so that he tracked Davis down and became a student of the legendary guitarist. This set goes back and forth between vocals and instrumentals; Hawkins has a vocal delivery similar to Leon Redbone. This release features Hawkins doing numbers by greats such as Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Big Bill Broonzy and the Rev. Davis. 12/10 MJVD B-Acoustic (Piedmont)
