This CD’s quite a surprise! This debut disc has dominated the British charts for a time as she’s being marketed as the new Eva Cassidy (the late US jazz/folk singer that Britons go ga-ga over). There’s even a Katie-penned song that’s a tribute to Eva (“Faraway Voice”).
Katie reminds of Eva, but maybe more of Norah Jones – the tone is smokier than Cassidy’s discs. This should indicate to you that the stuff here is borderline jazz; some is obviously so, others folk/jazz.
