In my books this is the best CD from Sam Phillips since her 1994 release Martini’s & Bikini’s. This is also Sam’s first self produced CD after divorcing the legendary T-Bone Burnett. This CD starts with Sam’s Unmistakable voice, fuzzy electric guitar & tribal drums. The use of distorted guitars, heavy percussion is found throughout the entire disc. All 12 tracks on this disc were written by Sam including “Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us” a track many will know from the Robert Plant & Allison Krauss’ disc Raising Sand. Many called Sam’s last release “A Boot and a Shoe” her divorce release. I think after one listen to “Don’t Do Anything” it is easy to see Sam has landed firmly back on her feet.
